Simmers of Edinburgh Ltd has extensive experience in the manufacture of oat cakes and biscuits stretching back to our establishment in 1888. Nairn’s was established shortly afterwards in 1896 and was acquired by Simmers, which was part of the United Biscuits group, in 1978. A management buyout in 1996 now sees Simmers of Edinburgh Ltd under a new management structure. At nairn's they strive to bake food that is as simple, natural and as wholesome as possible. Their oats are grown without using insecticides, by farmers who are members of
Scotland's Rural Stewardship Scheme. Naturally, they avoid using artificial ingredients wherever possible. To preserve the goodness of the oats, they use only natural ingredients and avoid additives. The Palm fruit oil they use in their oat cakes is natural oil. It is non hydrogenated, healthier than highly saturated fats such as palm kernel oil and contributes to the flavour of their oat-based products.
