Fair Trade
FAIRTRADE products come with a guarantee that the disadvantaged producers in the developing world are getting a better deal. As a consumer you can rest assured that your products have been bought to you on the basis of fair trade. Fair trade ensures better terms of trade and decent working conditions. It aims to address the injustices of conventional trade, enabling workers in the developing world to increase their profit and to gain more control over their lives.
The growth of Fair trade over the last 15 years has brought about a huge change in the lives of a great many farmers and producers in the developing world. Communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America, with the benefit of an agreed, stable price have been able to improve their livelihoods, strengthen their businesses and invest in their futures. Fair trade helps to build pride, independence and community empowerment. Although globally, the struggle against poverty and unfair trade has only just begun, as consumers, we can now play a part in helping to bring about significant change. Today, there are more than 2000 products in the range that carry the Fair trade label with something for everybody, such as coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, sugar, fruit, herbs and spices, nuts, beers, wines and much more besides. Sales in the UK are growing at around 40% every year and a small change in our shopping habits can empower communities to work for a better life. At Joshua’s we stock over sixty different fair trade food products, and much of our giftware is also ethically sourced.
All Fair trade products are marked with the FAIRTRADE symbol. When shopping click on the 'Fairtrade' tab at the top of the page to prioritise these items.
